Appreciate your perspective on notes. I feel the same about Twitter, so many academics have invested so much time in the platform, especially junior scholars trying to network, that it’s become too valuable for just abandoning it. Notes seems promising though, we’ll see. I’m curious about your thoughts on the future of private vs public platforms, thinking of Shoshana Zuboff’s critique?
Times Square is a public place but a mix of public and private entities without which it wouldn't be a physical cultural crossroads. Around 1983 I wrote a NY Daily News magazine piece about the changing ecology of the square - and attempts by architects like Philip Johnson to build plazas and other components that were actually designed to DETER people - kind of like the equivalent of what you're describing here. (I have to find and scan that ancient clip!) No easy answers.
I'm a little overwhelmed with the amount of data I can look at, it's making me feel some attention issues. I did scan enough to see that Mr. Revkin, who I have followed for many years, in in Ellsworth. Maine is part of my roots. Let's connect and I'll tell you about some eexciting sustainability initiatives in Northern NH. I like this notes...lets get away from Elon.
Yes, Berlin is like that as well, but I have become very embedded, while keeping my day job in sustainability. A person you should meet on Maine coast, if you haven't already, Des Fitzgerald.
He is in Rockport. I know Lamoine... and I frequented the Grand years ago. Great. This is what I liked about Twittter ... connecting with a curated list. Thanks for suggesting it.
I'll track Les down. Getting to know a great array of folks here. I actually have a Twitter List called #SustainMaine (still early stages :). https://twitter.com/i/lists/1503088735193292804
I've never been a big fan of short form media, and have always hated Twitter since day 1. But, having Notes integrated in to a blogging network is interesting, so I'll give it a try with as open a mind as possible. The cleaner interface and lack of ads is definitely a plus.
