Humboldt County, redwood country here in Far North Coastal California has experienced a very mild summer with more overcast days than sunny ones but now having some smoky skies from the Smith River Complex fire up north. Since late May, I have been living a car free existence and finding both the challenges and the liberating advantages of not using my own individual fossil fueled vehicle. Though my travels have not been far from my home and I haven't ventured into the surrounding beauty of the local rivers and mountains, I have enjoyed just walking the streets of my small rural college town and hoping high rise construction is not going to be approved along our sea level rising bayfront. Got a Letter to the Editor published last week in the North Coast Journal. Part of my "solutionary" ways for the future is to model my lifestyle and talk out loud about it to get the discussion going. It has been an interesting conversation. https://www.northcoastjournal.com/humboldt/a-car-free-existence/Content?oid=27486680
