Given how the Trump administration and its sycophants in Congress are abandoning Ukraine and actively appeasing Vladimir Putin, I thought it worth highlighting some of the musical output from Ukraine’s courageous and beleaguered troops on our Sunday Sanity show.
Here’s an example from two soldiers, violinist and composer Moisei Bondarenko and keyboard player Katrusia Zvolynska, performing the aptly-chosen tune “Mad World” (by Tears for Fears).
In the video description, posted around the December holidays, Bondarenko writes, “We created this video to support our brigade, and all those who on these holidays protect their land and relatives from occupation and the evil that currently reigns in our crazy world.” You can support his music on Patreon or PayPal here.

Here’s a stunning moment when a Ukrainian soldier, Taras Stolyar, performed "Shape of my Heart" on the bandura with Sting in Los Angeles (in the home of Sean Penn) ahead of a concert there in late December:
We’ll also feature the climate-focused physicist Julio Friedmann playing Schumann. Here’s a sample in case you can’t make it:
